NMSU Provides Las Cruces New Enthusiasm

Many of us living in Las Cruces have noticed a few more people around town.  Many of these additional faces display unbridled enthusiasm.  It happens every year about this time as new students come to Las Cruces with dreams and aspirations of receiving a top notch education at New Mexico State University.  Many students are experiencing not only a new school but a new town, new friends, and new opportunities.  As I see these students pile into dorm rooms, I cannot help but appreciate the optimism that all these new students have. 

This is also the time of the year when many students come back to Las Cruces from summer vacation or maybe an internship.  It is exciting to see all of their friends once again.  Soon Las Cruces will be full of college students all working towards improving their career opportunities.  Last year over 18,000 students were on the Las Cruces campus of NMSU.

We are very lucky to live in a college town.  The diversity and events a campus like NMSU can provide adds to our quality of life.  This year, more than ever, I appreciate seeing the hope and enthusiasm that NMSU inspires.  The hope that this fall brings Aggie football and Coach Walker more wins. . .  The opportunity for Aggie Volleyball to continue to increase its place on the national volleyball scene. . .  The chance for graduates to proudly finish school and realize their dreams.  This time of year in Las Cruces allows us to forget about the economy.  This time of year in Las Cruces is all about opportunity.  While we may not be freshmen arriving at NMSU this week, we can learn from those freshmen.  This is a great opportunity for all of us to regain our focus on what is important, what our goals are, and how we are going to achieve those goals.  It is a great time to regain our passion for life.  I look forward to growing and reaching my goals this year just like thousands of students across this great nation.

For 234 years America has been a beacon of hope not only to those fortunate enough to have been born here, but to people from every nation who yearn for freedom and equality. In New York harbor stands Lady Liberty, and on the statue's base is the famous Emma Lazarus poem, "The New Colossus."  The poem's final line reads, "I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"  Lady Liberty's outstretched hand holding the lamp is a symbol of America, known throughout the world. People from all walks of life and countries have wept when sailing into the harbor, as did American servicemen and women returning from foreign wars.  My wish for this 4th of July is that we all take a moment to think about our hard-won freedoms and not take them for granted. One great freedom is the right to own property and to consider a man's home his castle! We have heard this for years, but it is a right that so many people will never have.

Connie Hettinga Lends Expertise to Local Paper

Zane Fikany Completes National Association of Realtor’s E-Pro Designation

Zane Completes NAR’s E-Pro Designation

Zane Fikany recently completed all the requirements to obtain the National Association of Realtors only designation for Internet Marketing and Technology, ePRO. With more than 80% of consumers beginning their real estate research on the Internet, e-PRO certified agents have the experience and expertise to meet the demands of today’s buyer and seller.

“This designation just helps solidify our place as being on the very top of new technology so that we can help our buyers and sellers in the best possible way,” says Zane.

“Today on the Internet information about homes, neighborhoods, real estate professionals, the home buying and selling process, lending, you name it, are all available and searchable, at everyone’s fingertips,” said Zane. “A majority of consumers are taking the time to conduct their own research prior to contacting an agent. In turn, real estate professionals must be knowledgeable of how technology can assist them in serving the needs of the buying and selling public. It only makes sense to work with a REALTOR® who is up to speed on today’s technology.”

Zane’s Real Estate partner, Connie Hettinga, also has the E-Pro Designation. “We strive to offer the very best service and options for our clients. He also obtained his ABR designation, the Accredited Buyer Representative.

A Quick Note from Zane and Connie

Now that 2010 has arrived, we want to take this opportunity to look back over 2009, which was a year of change for us, most notably our move from Coldwell Banker to Steinborn GMAC. While the decision was not an easy one, there is no doubt it was the best decision for us and more importantly for our clients. We now have access to tools and resources to provide the very best service for our clients. Many businesses and Realtors have been hurt by the global economy, and while we definitely felt the effects, we refused to let anything keep us from doing the best job possible for every person with whom we have made contact. Our preparation and determination enabled us to increase our 2009 sales while many others were just trying to stay afloat. Emerging from 2009 as stronger Realtors, we know the way to succeed regardless of economic factors, is to build relationships with our clients and put out all the effort and extra hours necessary to ensure success. Connie Hettinga Named Las Cruces Mover and Shaker

 

The Las Cruces Sun News named Connie Hettinga one of Las Cruces’ Movers and Shakers for 2010 in a front page article Jan. 1, 2010. Also on the first, Hettinga takes over as the President of the Realtors Association of New Mexico. Connie’s commitment to both the professional realtors’ organization and Las Cruces started the moment she moved to the city. After spending years in real estate in Anchorage, Alaska, Connie knew the importance of being involved in her community. For the first time since 1991 Las Cruces has a strong voice in the state’s real estate landscape.

In her short time as a Realtor in Las Cruces(now 7 years), Hetttinga has won many awards including Realtor of the Year, and along with real estate partner Zane Fikany, Readers’ Choice Realtor of the Year in 2008.

Congratulations, Connie, on your awards and recognition, but more importantly, thank you for your professionalism and your commitment to the community.

A Little About Connie

Born in Kittery, Maine, I lived in various parts of the state until 1977 when my mother and I move to Anchorage, Alaska. There I worked at a variety of jobs until 1981 when I joined the Anchorage Police Department. Most of my 20 years of service was spent with the Emergency Communications Center, the last 10 years as a Supervisor. I was an Accredited Training Instructor and taught in the Police Dispatch Academy as well as the Field Training Program. I served as the President of the State Chapters of the National Emergency Number Association and the Accredited Public Safety Communications Officers. This is also where I met my husband Keith. We were married in 1996. Keith encouraged me to go to Real Estate school in 1997. This was 4 years before I retired from the Police Dept, but it soon became a full time job. Keith was born in New Mexico, so in 2002 we moved to Las Cruces to be close to family. I had been with Coldwell Banker in Alaska, so it was natural for me to come to Coldwell Banker in Las Cruces. We love living here and have enjoyed making this our home with our cat & dog, Bert & Ernie. We love to ride motorcycles and spending time outside. We have two daughters and three grand children, that live in Seattle, WA.
